Threading

Threading originated in the Middle East and South Asia. The technique involves using a thin piece of cotton thread and swiping it quickly against the skin to remove hair at the root without taking any skin along. Trained threading practitioners can perform the procedure at an extremely rapid rate, and for many people, threading is less painful than waxing or plucking. Eyebrow threading is most common, but threading can tackle hair on other areas of the face as well. The procedure can only be done on flat surfaces of skin, which is why threading has not replaced waxing as the choice method of hair removal on the bikini line. Like waxing and shaving, however, threading does have the potential to cause infection, so you have to make sure you find a skilled practitioner who uses clean materials. The practice of threading has been popular in Nepalese, Indian and Pakistani neighborhoods of the United States for years, but these days it is becoming a lot more mainstream . You can usually find credible threading boutiques in most major cities.

The benefit of threading that most sets it apart from other hair removal techniques is its precision. While waxing and plucking can often leave unwanted stray hairs around your eyebrows, a threading artist goes through your hair row by row, giving eyebrows a clean and defined shape. Threading only removes hair, not skin, and because it is so exact, it can remove hairs that are finer than those that can be removed by waxing or plucking.

Waxing

Waxing is the process of hair removal, we use strip wax to effectively remove the hair from the root. At Clean Slate Waxing Lounge we use only the best products that are specifically formulated to prevent skin irritation to reactive skin. We use a cream based strip wax that is formulated for sensitive skin and delicate skin. The wax used at Clean Slate Waxing Lounge is all natural, natural antioxidant, excellent emollient and great for all skin types. The skin is prepped with a oil to protect the skin from the wax, after the waxing process is complete we use an after waxing oil that soothes, calms and removes wax residue. The hair must be a minimum of 1/4 inch to ensure proper removal of hair. Trimming is not recommended. Waxing originated in Egypt. In 1150 BC, it was reported that the bodies of women in Ramses III harem were smooth and hairless. It is possible that body waxing was practiced even earlier in Egypt dating back to 3000 BC. Most areas of concern were legs and underarms. Since the 80’s body waxing saw an increase in the numbers of women that wax. Today intimate waxing (known as Brazilian) is wildly popular followed by legs, underarms, facial and backs.

Will my hair grow back thicker, darker or heavier?

No, it will not. Waxing removes the hair by the root, often weakening the root in process. Therefore, if anything, waxing will make the hair finer and sparser with repeated regular waxing.

What are the benefits?

Smooth and even skin. One of the best benefits of waxing is that your skin will feel smooth and even. When waxing, you not only remove unwanted hair—you also wax away any dry and dead skin cells in the process. No cuts. With waxing, you aren’t at risk to any cuts or nicks that can leave you with scars from shaving. Stubble free skin – Waxing removes unwanted hair completely, from its roots. Shaving, on the other hand, often results in stubbles, leaving your skin feeling rough and abrasive. Irritation and allergies-free. There are minimal chemicals involved in the waxing process, so rarely does waxing cause any skin irritation or allergy. Slow hair re-growth. After waxing, the regrowth of your hair is very slow, often taking 4 to 6 weeks. As well, many say that they have found their hair to be finer, after the regrowth.

Facial

What is a facial?

To put it simply, a facial is a series of exercises performed on the face, using a range of treatments, with the end goal of improving the appearance of skin and helping you to relax. A common spa treatment, facials do not have to last a specific amount of time or use a specific series of products. If performed properly, a facial should be tailored to your individual skin type and skin concerns so you notice the most benefit. For example, not performing a vigorous exfoliation on someone with sensitive skin.

To some the word ‘facial’ conjures thoughts of deep cleansing and extraction..

What are the benefits of a facial?

Facials are focused on improving condition of the skin naturally to provide both instant and long-term results. Benefits vary from person to person as facials also relax body and mind, but the main goal is to improve skin. This could mean brightening dull skin, hydrating dry skin, adding a plumping effect to ageing skin, and adding a confident spring to your step.

We offer 4 different kind of facial here at our place.

Tinting

Tinting is the process of applying semi-permanent dye to enhance, shape, and define your brows. Tinting allows a professional to manipulate the brow area by darkening the fine hairs that surround the perimeter of the brow to increase the width. “It also allows the specialist to darken the fine hairs in the inner core of the brow that are in less dense areas. This creates a longer brow line (brow tail) or fuller front and a more ideal shape. Tint is made of semi-permanent vegetable dye or henna that is mixed to match your existing shade. This can be done at salons or with at-home kits. It gives the appearance of thicker, more youthful-looking brows.

Eyebrow Lamination

Brow lamination involves straightening and lifting the hairs using a chemical solution, which allows the hairs to have more flexibility to move them into your desired shape, therefore covering any gaps or stray areas. After your natural brow hairs are straightened, a fixing solution is applied to keep the hairs straight, as well as a tint if desired. The result is fuller-looking brows that stay in place when brushed into shape, lasting around six weeks. While microblading involves your therapist using semi-permanent dye strokes to fill in your brows, brow lamination straightens and lifts your natural hairs to achieve a full and feathered look, with no tattooing involved.
